Jennifer Wood

Teacher
James Russell Lowell

At James Russell Lowell within IPS, we are committed to providing an education that meets the needs of all students, regardless of their challenges. Miss Wood, one of our dedicated educators, emphasizes the effectiveness of the Montessori method in transforming the educational experiences of our students, many of whom face significant obstacles such as trauma, learning disabilities, and language barriers.

Our school is home to a diverse student body, including many who are just beginning to learn English and others who start their educational journey with us significantly behind academically. The Montessori approach, as applied by Miss Wood, is particularly suited to these challenges. It requires patience and a deep understanding of individual learning paths, and it may not always show immediate results. However, the transformation observed over time is profound.

With the unique advantage of teaching students over a three-year span, Miss Wood witnesses remarkable growth. A student who might struggle with basic tasks and behavioral issues in first grade can evolve into a more focused learner by second grade, and by third grade, become a helper to others—demonstrating the potential for extraordinary development.

This journey is not easy, but it is incredibly rewarding. At James Russell Lowell, the long road through education is paved with persistence, understanding, and tailored teaching methods, proving what's possible when educators like Miss Wood commit to meeting every student where they are and helping them grow beyond what was once imaginable.
